Domestic Violence 101

This core training provides a strong foundation for understanding the dynamics of abusive relationships. Participants will learn about the cycle of violence, barriers to leaving, and available community resources. CEUs will be provided.

The event will take place at the Elizabeth Baffum Chace Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fundamentals: Essential Facilitation Skills for an Effector Facilitator

This workshop will help you develop critical facilitation skills to effectively guide meetings to reach desired objectives. Through developing productive agendas and focusing on meeting strategies, this session helps teams achieve their organizational goals.

The event goes from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library.

Bridges, Barriers, and Boundaries: Ensuring Culturally Competent Care.

The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library.

LGBTQ+ youth and young adults are routinely stigmatized and deprived of support in every major area of life. As a result, they have higher rates of substance abuse, depression, suicide, homelessness, and other at-risk behaviors. This training will assess individual and organizational readiness to effectively serve this population, and develop strategies for providing affirming, culturally competent programs, and services to LGBTQ+ youth and families. CEUs will be provided.

History of the Domestic Violence Movement

The Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence will have a special training session to explore the history of the domestic violence movement. The session will be presented by former RICADV Executive Director, Deborah DeBare. Participants will have an opportunity to share their experiences with their local organizations' history, have a dialogue about how far the movement has come, and where it is headed.

The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southside Cultural Center of Rhode Island.

Fundamentals of Working with Domestic Violence Offenders

Through this workshop, participants explore victim and offender dynamics in abusive relationships, and how those dynamics affect treatment participation. Trainers will provide an overview of the court process, and new efforts to assess an offender’s lethality risks. CEUs will be provided.

The event goes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elizabeth Baffum Chace Center.

Trauma-Informed Practice: Effects of Complex Trauma in the Child Welfare System

This training focuses on the impact of complex trauma on children and families in the child welfare system and best practices geared toward children and families in child welfare. Through case studies, participants will have the opportunity to apply a trauma-informed approach to their case planning. CEUs will be provided.

The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elizabeth Baffum Chase Center.
