RI Public Expenditure Council Seeking Nominations for Public Service Awards

The Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council is seeking nominations for the 41st annual Public Service Awards. The winners will be recognized at RIPEC's annual meeting on October 17. 

The awards include the Robert Goodrich Distinguished Public Service Award which will recognize an outstanding local employee and the Gary Sasse Distinguished Public Service Award which will recognize an outstanding state employee. 

The awards are named in honor of Goodrich and Sasse who were each advocate for improving State and local public service throughout their careers.

2013     Peter M. Marino, Director, RI Office of Management & Budget  (state)   Peter A. DeAngelis, Jr. Town Manager, Barrington (local)

2014     Thomas Mullaney, Acting Director, RI Office of Management & Budget (state)  Jeanne Boyle, Planning Director, East Providence (local)

2015     Steve Whitney, Advisor, Senate Fiscal Office (state) James Lathrop, Deputy Administrator/Finance Director, Portsmouth (local)

Nominee Qualifications 

Nominees for the awards must have a total of at least 5 years of non-elective, full-time public service in Rhode Island State and/or local government. However, it is not required that the nominee's position be part of a civil service or merit system, and non-supervisory as well as supervisory personnel are eligible. 

Qualifications of each nominee will be reviewed by a selection committee, who will determine the final recipients. Those applying should include specific examples to show the accomplishments of the nominee as it relates to the overall criteria and performance objectives. 

The standards are: 

  • Sustained superior performance in the service of the Rhode Island taxpayer;
  • Fiscal responsibility and business acumen;
  • Record of integrity and devotion to public service;
  • Personal initiative and resourcefulness; and
  • Diligence and productivity.
