The President of the Rhode Island Association of Realtors (RIAR), Chris Whitten, says he is aware of GoLocal’s reporting on realtor Kyle Seyboth and that the matter is being reviewed by his organization.

Realtors are licensed by the state of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation has authority over licenses. It is rare for the agency to discipline license holders.

The RIAR is a membership organization that is the local chapter of the National Association of Realtors, and the organization asserts that it follows a code of ethics. The organization can strip Seyboth of his membership in the organization. RIAR reports it has 6,000 members.

“We are aware of the article that ran in GoLocalProv.com Wednesday morning and acknowledge that it is extremely disturbing at best,” said Whitten.

“Be assured that the Rhode Island Association of Realtors does not condone unprofessional conduct or language of any kind. This matter is being reviewed internally,” said Whitten.

When asked if this type of language and the threat to call Immigration by Seyboth were in keeping with the code of ethics of the organization, Whitten refused to answer.

“Please understand that weighing in on a private matter between two parties of which the Association is not privy to all details, nor which has been adjudicated through the court, puts the Association in the position of possible legal liability. Therefore, no further public statement will be made at this time,” said Whitten.

On Wednesday, GoLocal unveiled a series of text messages sent by Century 21 realtor Seyboth, in which he threatened to call immigration on a family with whom he was in a dispute.

In a separate matter, Seyboth is presently in the midst of a legal battle with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office. GoLocal first reported that case in November of 2024.

The Attorney General's case is ongoing.
