RI State Police Arrest Man With 69 Pounds of Marijuana Worth $140K

The Rhode Island State Police seized 69 pounds of marijuana worth $140,000 from a New York man on Interstate 95 at approximately 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Liyin Zhou, 36, of Flushing, New York was charged with delivery/possession with intent to deliver & manufacture (marijuana) and manufacturing/possession/delivery of greater than 5 kilos of marijuana.

He was also cited for speeding more than 11 miles an hour over the speed limit.

The Arrest

Zhou was arrested after troopers stopped him for allegedly speeding on Interstate 95 North near Weaver Hill Road in West Greenwich, where he was recorded traveling 77 miles an hour in a 65 mile-per-hour zone.

As part of their investigation, troopers found four large garbage bags containing 69 individual vacuum-sealed bags each filled with one pound of marijuana.

The marijuana was seized, along with $1,222 in cash.
