Sons of Jacob Synagogue

Sons of Jacob Synagogue was built in 1906 to serve the Jewish community in the North End along Orms Street, Douglas Avenue, and Chalkstone Avenue. The congregation grew, necessitating the addition of the second-floor sanctuary in 1922.

Though most of the 300 families that once made up the congregation have since moved to Providence’s East Side and surrounding suburbs, a small group continues to worship in the ground floor where the synagogue first began.

Future plans for the building include establishing a home for the newly formed Rhode Island Jewish Museum.
