State Rep Ackerman Met With Colleges To Discuss Sexual Assault

The gathering came after Rep. Ackerman promised to reach out to colleges and universities to talk about the ongoing problem of campus assault and what legislators can do to help.
“We can’t just submit legislation with no thought to the consequences, it was nice to get all these people together and hear what they had to say," said Representative Ackerman.

According to the National Institute of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics, it is estimated that the percentage of completed or attempted rape victimization among women in higher educational institutions is between 20 and 25 percent over the course of a college career.
Of the 20 to 25 percent, it is estimated that only five percent of completed or attempted rapes are reported.
