Teach For America- Rhode Island Announces Advisory Board Formation

Teach For America - Rhode Island announced the formation of a regional advisory board on December 9. The Advisory board will lend their experience and expertise to Teach For America - Rhode Island's efforts to recruit, train and develop a diverse group of highly effective teachers to work in the highest need schools in Rhode Island. 

"We’re very excited to have this incredible group of professionals who are truly committed to educational equity working in partnership with us as our first advisory board,” said Heather Tow-Yick, executive director of Teach For America–Rhode Island.

The New Advisory Board Members are:

Laurel Bowerman- The vice president of the commercial real estate group at The Washington Trust Company in Providence, a position she has held since 2006. 

Anna Cano-Morales- The director of the Latino Policy Institute and University Relations at Roger Williams University.

Spencer Dickinson- A manager in the education practice of the Bridgespan Group and has spent the last two and a half years as a strategic advisor to urban school districts and other education organizations across the nation.

Christopher Graham- Partner-in-charge of the Providence office of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP and serves as co-chair to the firm's business law department.

Kara Milner- The mother of three young children, the daughter of two career educators and a former high school teacher.

Stephanie Ogidan Preston- Joined Citizens Bank as vice president, strategic initiatives in commercial loan operations. 

Phoebe Salten- The president and chief executive officer of High Street Properties LLC, a small enterprise that owns and manages rental real estate in Providence.

Teach For America is the national corps of recent college graduates and professionals  who make an enduring commitment to educational equality. 

This year, 60 corps members are teaching in Rhode Island public schools and reach about 4,500 students.
