The Most Dangerous Rural Intersections and Roads - Top 35

How the ranking was calculated The ranking is based on both the number of crashes and the total cost. Only those intersections and interchanges where there had been 15 or more crashes were considered. From there, the top 15 were selected based on the highest crash costs over a three year period. The lists of the top 10 most dangerous major and top 10 minor rural roads were compiled using a similar methodology that took into account the number and severity of crashes as well as the cost.

Source of the information The data was provided to GoLocalProv by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation in response to an open records request. It is compiled annually as part of a report on the Rhode Island Highway Safety Improvement Program. The information contained in this story was collected for the 2010 report.
