As an Irish-American dual citizen, I'm seriously contemplating a move to Ireland. This isn't a knee-jerk reaction to any particular political climate but a carefully considered decision based on several factors that significantly impact my quality of life.

At 53, and living with diabetes, affordable healthcare is paramount. While the overall cost of living in Ireland may be comparable to the US, healthcare costs, particularly for prescription medications, are significantly lower. This is crucial for managing my condition effectively and reducing financial strain.

The stark difference in housing markets is another major draw. Owning a home in Ireland, especially outside the major cities, is far more attainable than in the US. This offers a level of stability and security that feels increasingly out of reach here.

Furthermore, the ability to transfer my Social Security benefits to Ireland provides a reliable financial foundation. This, coupled with a lower crime rate than many parts of America, adds to the appeal.

Ireland, a country roughly the size of Illinois, offers an intriguing balance. I could live in a more affordable area while still having access to larger cities for work and cultural experiences. And let's not forget the freedom to easily travel, work, and even live in any of the 27 European Union countries – a true embodiment of freedom and opportunity.

While America has long been associated with the idea of freedom, it feels increasingly elusive. In Ireland, I see a chance for a fresh start, a more secure future, and a renewed sense of liberty. It's a move I believe is worth considering for anyone with the opportunity, especially those of us seeking a more affordable and fulfilling life.
