Two Break-Ins Reported on Benefit Street in Providence

Two first floor residences were broken into on Benefit Street in Providence on Monday.

The break-ins occurred at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) dormitories.

About Incidents

Shortly after 9 PM on Monday, Providence Police responded to 185 and 187 Benefit Street for reports of breaking and entering. 

The buildings are student residences and part of the RISD campus. 

According to RISD security, at 185 Benefit Street, a suspect tried to gain entrance through a window.

A resident was inside at the time and reportedly screamed causing the intruder to flee. 

A second residence at 187 Benefit Street was broken into a short while later. 

Jewelry was reporteldy stolen from the apartment before the suspect fled. 

RISD security video of the incidents shows that the suspect is a black or Hispanic male. 

Detectives are currently investigating. 

 

Latest Crime in City

On Monday, two teenagers were shot in Olneyville. 

They were at a memorial at the intersection of Julian and Amherst Streets.
