80-Year-Old Robbed of Purse on East Side of Providence

An 80-year-old woman reported being robbed of her purse on Hope Street on the East Side of Providence.

Shortly before 4 PM on Tuesday, November 14, police were called to 792 Hope Street for a report of a larceny. A Citizens Bank branch and bus stop are located at the address.

Police said that upon arrival, they met with the victim -- an 80-year-old woman -- who gave the police a report of what occurred.

She told police she had just exited a RIPTA bus when a man came up to her and grabbed her purse off her shoulder. 

The victim told police the suspect then fled on foot. 

Police say the victim said she was not injured in the incident.

The business area is home to dozens of locally owned small businesses as well as banks, a CVS, and two gas stations.

Detectives are currently investigating.
