Man Assaulted and Robbed Outside Graduate Hotel in Downtown Providence

A man was reportedly assaulted and robbed next to Providence City Hall on Tuesday night. 

The victim told police it happened outside of the Graduate Hotel — the old Biltmore.

About Incident 

Shortly after 9:30 PM, police respond to Memorial Boulevard for a report of an assault. 

The victim — a male in his early 20s — said that a man had come up behind him outside of the Graduate and punched him in the eye. 

Police said they saw a laceration and swelling to the area where the victim said he was hit. 

The victim told police the punch knocked him to the ground, at which time the assailant took his cell phone from his pocket before fleeing the area. 

The victim told police the assailant was a “black male, about 5’4 in height, heavy set, with black afro-like hair, and a beard, wearing a black tee shirt, jeans and white shoes.”

Detectives are currently investigating.
