Police Apprehend Suspect in Downtown Providence Bank Robbery on Monday

Providence police have apprehended a suspect in a bank robbery in Providence on Monday. 

About Incident

According to police, the robbery occurred shortly before 2 PM at the Webster Bank located at 100 Westminster Street.

Police said that the suspect passed a note to a teller during the robbery. 

After police were alerted to the robbery, the suspect was apprehended by Providence Police on a RIPTA bus. 

The suspect has been identified by police as Richard Wilmont, age 36. 

“He is being charged with second-degree robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon while committing a crime,” Providence Police Major David Lapatin confirmed. 

Lapatin noted that the weapon was a knife. 

Wilmont is currently being held.
