Providence Police Recommend Firing Officer Arrested for Assault at State House

After Providence Police officer Jeann Lugo was arrested on assault charges at the Rhode Island State House rally on Friday, he is facing new internal charges -- and Providence Police are recommending he be fired.

The Providence Police released the following on Tuesday afternoon.

Through an investigation conducted by the Providence Police Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility, and in accordance with R.I.G.L and the Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights (LEOBOR), Officer Jeann Lugo has been charged with Simple Assault or Battery and Disorderly Conduct related to the incident that occurred at the RI State House on June 24, 2022.  

Lugo also faces internal charges for violation of the Providence Police Department’s Rules and Regulations including:
 
* Obedience to Laws and Rules
* Standard of Conduct
* Courtesy
* Rules Governing Conduct
* Demeanor
 
Under LEOBOR, Officer Lugo remains suspended with pay as the investigation proceeds. Providence Police administration have advised that the recommended penalty for Officer Lugo is termination of his employment with the Providence Police Department.
