Two Prov Elementary Schools Receive $40K to Expand Learning Initiatives

The Providence Public School District has announced that Carl Lauro Elementary School as well as Harry Kizirian Elementary School will each receive a $20,000 Verizon Innovative Learning grant from the Verizon Foundation. 

The two schools are among 100 schools/districts from across the country to receive a Verizon Innovative Learning Grant, a grant program designed to help provide teachers with resources needed to use innovative technology and engage students in STEM education. 

The awards will be presented at a ceremony with Mayor Jorge Elorza, Superintendent Chris Maher, and Verizon Regional Director, Michelle Cinquegano, on Wednesday, January 27 at Harry Kizirian Elementary School. The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m.

Funding from the Innovative Learning Grants will be used to expand and scale blended learning at the elementary schools. Both schools will be able to provide professional development opportunities and work with teachers to support the use of innovative technology in the classroom. 

The program at Carl Lauro Elementary will focus on expanding blended learning in grades 3-5 and the program at the Harry Kizirian Elementary will provide supports to expand blended learning in mathematics instruction.
