Attorney General Merrick Garland named Robert Hur, a former U.S. attorney during the Trump administration, as special counsel to examine the discovery of classified documents at President Biden’s home and office.

Garland held a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

The appointment comes after Biden’s lawyer said aides found classified records dating back to Biden’s time as vice president. The documents are discovered in the President’s garage at his home in Delaware, and at an office, he used at a Washington-based think tank.

“Hur is a longtime federal prosecutor who served as the U.S. Attorney in Maryland in the Trump administration and as a senior aide to the deputy attorney general. He clerked for the late U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, and prosecuted dozens of financial fraud, public corruption and other cases. He most recently was a defense lawyer in private practice,” reports the Wall St. Journal.
