Vaccine Frustration -- and No Easter Processions: LIVE From Bolzano, Italy

Rebecca Couto da Silva appeared LIVE on GoLocal from Italy.
Rebecca Couto da Silva joined GoLocal LIVE from Bolzano, Italy where she spoke to the frustration in the northern region of the country -- and what Easter weekend has in store in what is now year two of the pandemic.

"There’s frustration with vaccine rollout here," said da Silva. "I think it’s going pretty smoothly but of course we had the AstraZeneca scare."

"It’s getting nice again and Easter Sunday is coming up and the national rule for Easter Sunday is that you can spend it with two adults that you don’t cohabitate with, and you have to be in masks the whole time," said da Silva. "People may follow the two adult rule — I don’t know how you have your Easter brunch with masks on."

And churches?

"From what I’ve seen, it’s no procession, no procession, no procession — they’re trying to avoid being responsible for crowds," she said. "The official position is very much let’s not create crowds."

On Tuesday, there were 16,055 new coronavirus cases recorded in the country — on February 1, there had been 7,925 with the cases creeping back up steadily.

"It’s been very intense here. From what I’ve read, it’s the variants — affecting a new…naive population, in the sense you could get it again if you’ve had it once."
