VIDEO: Chaos on 195 - Tractor Trailer Crushes Car; 13 Injured, Driver Charged

A truck driver has been charged following a crash on I-195 on Tuesday morning that shut down the highway and injured 13 people. 

GoLocal has obtained video of the aftermath of the public safety response that shows the tractor-trailer truck on top of a car, and multiple crushed vehicles.

About Incident

According to Rhode Island State Police, at approximately 8:53 AM on Tuesday, multiple emergency response agencies responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Route 195 West in East Providence.

A tractor-trailer traveling west failed to stop for traffic, colliding with approximately twelve vehicles, said State Police. 

Emergency crews from the Rhode Island State Police, Massachusetts State Police, East Providence Police and Fire Departments, Providence Fire Department, Cranston Fire Department, Warren Fire Department, Seekonk Police, and the Rhode Island Department of Transportation quickly arrived at the scene to assist.

Thirteen individuals, including the tractor-trailer operator, were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries, according to State Police. One female driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police said the operator of the tractor-trailer, Jon P. Main, age 64, of Cranston, was charged with Driving to Endanger, Resulting in Physical Injury and will be arraigned following release from the hospital.
