CNN reports that the commune of Villevieille in the southern part of the country has recorded 45.1 degrees Celsius.
That is 113.2 Fahrenheit and the hottest temperature on record in France's history. The previous record was set in 2003 and is just one degree less. Back then, an epic heat wave left thousands of people dead in France.
