The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has taken action against two health professionals — who RIDOH says “abandoned” nursing facility residents.

This week, RIDOH reprimanded nursing assistants Eduardo Rodriguez Sanchez and Nicole Rodi.

According to RIDOH, Sanchez was “employed as a nursing assistant at a nursing facility” — and on February 12, 2024, clocked in at 4:20 PM and clocked out at 5:15 PM and “left the facility, thus abandoning residents of the facility in his care.”

RIDOH said Rodi was also “employed as a nursing assistant at a nursing facility” - and on August 11, 2024 arrived at the facility at 7 AM for a shift that was scheduled to end at 1 PM.

“[Rodi] arrived at the facility at 7 AM and reported to the second floor. A nurse on the second floor asked her to work on the first floor instead of working on the second floor, at which time [Rodi] terminated her position at the facility and left the building, thus abandoning the residents who were in need of her care," said RIDOH.

The actions of both nursing assistants “constituted unprofessional conduct” under Rhode Island General Law, according to RIDOH.

RIDOH did not identify the facilities where the health professionals were employed.
