Woman Shot in Providence During Botched Drug Deal

Police are investigating a shooting in the city overnight.

According to police, the victim — a female in her 20s — was shot during a botched drug deal.

Police were called to Roger Williams Hospital shortly after 9 PM Wednesday for a report of a gunshot victim. 

The victim’s friend told police that they had gone to Rankin Avenue — off of Chalkstone Avenue — to sell marijuana to a man they had met on the “Telegram” phone app. 

According to the victim’s friend, two men approached their vehicle and tried to grab the marijuana out of her friend’s hands, and a struggle ensued — and a gunshot went off.

The victim’s friend transported her to the hospital for treatment; police say the victim’s injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

Detectives are currently investigating.
