In a May of 1965 memo from FBI Director John Edgar Hoover to U.S. Attorney General Nicholas "Nick" Katzenbach outlines the influence of Raymond Patriarca on crime in America and the need for continued bugging of his office.

Katzenbach replaced Bobby Kennedy as Attorney General and my best be known for his actions in 1963 for challenging then-Governor George Wallace to allow black students access to the University of Alabama.

Wallace stood in front of Foster Auditorium at Alabama "in an attempt to stop desegregation of that institution by the enrollment of two black students, Vivian Malone and James Hood." This Civil Rights showdown between Katenbach and Wallace became known as the "Stand in the Schoolhouse Door."
