Clean Water Action Endorses Taveras

A national 1.2 million-member environmental group, Clean Water Action, has endorsed Angel Taveras for mayor of Providence, his campaign announced today.

“We are proud to announce our endorsement of Angel Taveras for Mayor of Providence,” said Clean Water Action’s Rhode Island Director, Sheila Dormody. “Angel’s five-point environmental program focuses on reducing Providence’s carbon footprint and positioning Providence as a leader in the rapidly growing green economy. These measures are just what our capitol city needs to move forward. We look forward to working with him when he is elected to help him implement his ambitious plan.”

Taveras promised to make Providence an “international leader” in environmental stewardship, saying global issues like energy independence and global warming were connected to local issues like the city budget and energy and food costs for families.

“I look forward to bringing the city's environmental and renewable energy activists into City Hall with me so that we can work together to make the dream of a clean energy economy a reality,” Taveras said. “I am deeply committed to passing this world on to our children cleaner and safer than we found it.”
