Could Taveras Have Improved Providence's 9.5% Unemployment? 5 Ways He Could Have Grown Jobs

The Gina Raimondo attack ad on Angel Taveras blames him for Providence's high unemployment during his tenure. In response the Taveras campaign claims the Mayor has little impact on the employment condition in the city.

“The Providence economy needs to be the engine that drives our state’s economy, but under Mayor Taveras the engine is sputtering,” said Raimondo campaign spokeswoman Nicole Kayner. “Rhode Island is tied for the highest unemployment rate in the country and in Providence it is even higher. Providence is not a model for how to turn around our state’s economy and get people back to work. When he was running for Mayor he said he’d be a “jobs mayor” but now that he’s in office he ducks responsibility for the 9.5 percent unemployment rate in his city. That’s not leadership.”
