Hopkins won handily despite facing charges and lawsuits regarding an antique automobile.

A lawsuit filed in Superior Court in Rhode Island this past August against Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins over a classic car was moved to federal court.

Davide Broccoli sued Hopkins for allegedly “wrongfully taking a motor vehicle owned by [Broccoli] without his authorization and without any agreement with him to pay for it.”

The vehicle is a white 1975 Morris Garage MGB Anniversary Edition coupe that Brocolli said he owned before the Mayor took possession of it; Hopkins maintains he tried to pay Brocolli and obtain a bill of sale.

Victory After Being Primaried

Hopkins staved off a primary challenge from State Representative Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung in September.

In the primary, Hopkins got 58.8% of the vote with 3350 votes; Fenton Fung finished with 41.2% of the vote with 2352 votes.

Hopkins was first elected Cranston Mayor in 2020, when he defeated Democrat Maria Bucci in the general election that November.
