No Surprise: Fenton-Fung to Primary Hopkins for GOP Nomination in Cranston
Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung PHOTO: GoLocalRhode Island Republican State Representative Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung (D-15) has announced she will be challenging Cranston Mayor and fellow Republican Kenneth Hopkins.
Fenton-Fung’s run is of little surprise as she has been tweaking Hopkins over the past year on many local issues ranging from managing the Budlong swimming pool to issues relating to the Republican City Committee.
Fenton-Fung’s husband was long-time mayor Allan Fung, who lost for governor in 2014 and 2018 and lost the race for congress in the second congressional district in 2022 to Seth Magaziner.
Hopkins won the mayor’s office in 2020, beating Democrat Maria Bucci handily 54%-45%.
Cranston politics has been a bastion of chaos over the past year.
