NEW: Cicilline, Langevin Prevail in Democratic Congressional Primaries in RI

Rhode Island Congressmen David Cicilline
Rhode Island Congressmen David Cicilline and Jim Langevin turned back Democratic challengers in the Rhode Island statewide party primaries on Tuesday.

Cicilline beat opponent Chris Young in the first Congressional District.

With 90% of precincts reporting, Cicilline was up 20,208 votes to Young’s 10,073.

Cicilline, the former two-term Mayor of Providence, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010.

Langevin Landslide

In District Two, Langevin turned away two challengers, Steven Archer and John Hamilton.

With 94% of precincts reporting, Langevin had 14,576 votes to Archer’s 4,506, and Hamilton’s 3,908.

Langevin, who was elected Rhode Island Secretary of State in 1994, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000.
