New Poll: Caprio and Chafee Still in a Dead Heat

The poll showed Caprio slightly ahead of Chafee 37 percent to 33 percent, within the 4.42 margin of error. Republican John Robitaille had 22 percent and Moderate Party candidate Ken Block had 2 percent. Only 6 percent were undecided. The poll was conducted on Oct. 4 to 6 and was based on a survey of 492 registered likely voters.
The poll also served up a big surprise: independent Bob Healey is in a “statistical dead heat” in the race for lieutenant governor against Democratic incumbent Elizabeth Roberts. She drew 48 percent support while Healey had 43 percent. Healey, a political outsider and Rhode Island iconoclast, has promised to do everything he can to abolish the office if he is elected. He says the lieutenant governor serves no useful purpose in state government.
