NEW: RI Ethics Commission Dismisses GOP Complaint Against McKee

The Rhode Island Ethics Commission on Tuesday announced the dismissal of a complaint filed by the Republican Party against Democratic Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee. 

The complaint was over a lunch at the Capital Grille last year that McKee attended with his fundraising chair Jerry Sahagian and lobbyist Jeff Britt and his client, Scout.  

The GOP complaint said the lunch, paid for by Britt, wasn't reported in violation of state law; Britt was later reimbursed by the McKee campaign.

On Tuesday, McKee issued the following statement. 

“I thank the ethics commission for their thorough review and unanimous dismissal of the politically motivated complaint filed against me by the Rhode Island Republican Party. Just like the ethics commission, the people of Rhode Island saw this stunt for what it was.

The current leadership of the Rhode Island Republican Party is irresponsible and not reflective of the Republican leaders that I have worked with over the years. They showed their lack of leadership by using the Ethics Commission to pursue their own political agenda."
