NEW: Top Fung Supporter Quits and Joins Block

One of the top GOP fundraisers in Rhode Island has quit his role with Allan Fung's campaign for Governor to take a leadership role with Ken Block's campaign for Governor.

Tony Bucci will serve as a senior adviser and finance chair for Block's GOP campaign.

Bucci was finance chair for Brendan Doherty's 2012 Congressional campaign and Don Carcieri's 2006 gubernatorial runs, and deputy finance chair for Carcieri's 2002 campaign and Lincoln Chafee's 2000 U.S. Senate race. He was treasurer of the state Republican Party in 2001-02, according to Block's campaign.

Bucci is an insurance executive and Warwick resident. He has officially resigned as a member of Cranston Mayor Allan Fung's committee to take his new responsibilities with the Block campaign.

"When I learned that Ken Block would be running as a Republican, I concluded that he would be the best candidate to fix Rhode Island's serious problems and the strongest candidate to win the general election," said Bucci. "He knows how our state government needs to change in order to create a pro-growth economy where business creates new jobs, and he's committed to getting it done.

"Ken's leadership as a private citizen in trying to get rid of the 'master lever' is a great example of his determination to do the right things for our state and his ability to rally people to a good cause."

"I feel truly honored to gain the support of such a leading member of Rhode Island's Republican Party," said Block. "Tony's active role in my campaign will demonstrate to other Republicans that my principles are in line with theirs, and his legendary fundraising skills will help get us the resources we need to win."
