Pell's Campaign and GoLocalProv Question Taveras TV Ad

An attack ad by Angel Taveras has caught criticism by the Clay Pell campaign for its tone and from GoLocalProv for its errors.

Pell's campaign issued the following statement:

For weeks now, Mayor Taveras and Treasurer Raimondo have been lobbing negative attacks at one another. At the same time, Clay has been focused on one thing -- talking with Rhode Islanders about the new ideas and fresh approach he'll bring as Governor, and his real plan to get our state back on course.

Because of the growing momentum of our grassroots campaign, Mayor Taveras has now turned his mudslinging in our direction. We, however, firmly reject the politics of attack and innuendo. Clay learned from his grandfather that campaigns shouldn't be about tearing people down, but should be about ideas for the future.

GoLocal Questioned the Factual Errors and Research

The Taveras campaign failed to reference correctly the investigation of Pell's voting record that was conducted by GoLocalProv. The TV commercial identifies the wrong media company and the wrong date.

The issue of Pell failing to vote more than 50% of the time as an adult was first reported by GoLocalProv in a series of investigative pieces. "We would hope that they correct the error in their commercial. Details matter and it raises questions about other claims the campaign may be making," said Josh Fenton, CEO and Co-Founder of GoLocalProv.com.

The first - INVESTIGATION: Pell Failed to Vote More than Half the Time

Clay Pell, the 32-year-old announced Democratic candidate for Governor, is looking for your vote, but since he became age eligible he has failed to vote more than half the time.

According to GoLocal's investigation, Pell failed to vote in just 40% of the Democratic primaries and 60% of the general elections and 33% of the Presidential primaries from 2004 to 2012. Tomorrow, GoLocal will release Pell's Arizona voting record from the 2000 and 2002 elections.

The second - Pell’s Failed Voting Record Gets Worse

GoLocalProv has learned the 32-year-old Democratic candidate for Governor Clay Pell missed even more votes in elections than previously reported.

According to information from Arizona Secretary of States Office and confirmed by the Pell campaign, Pell missed voting in three of the five elections he was eligible to vote in during the 2000 to 2002 election cycles.
