The Rhode Island GOP Convention took place Wednesday night at the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston with a couple of hundred party faithful in attendance.

Allan Fung was the big winner on the night.

The last-minute withdrawal by Bob Lancia in his bid for the second congressional district cleared the way for Fung to secure the party's nomination and run unopposed through the September 13 primary.

According to recent polls, Fung is the frontrunner for the second congressional seat. If victorious, he would be the first GOP member of the RI Congressional delegation since then Republican Lincoln Chafee lost his seat in the U.S. Senate to Sheldon Whitehouse in 2006.

Republican National Committee Co-Chairman Tommy Hicks was the guest speaker at the Convention.

GoLocal's Richard McCaffrey was at Rhodes capturing all the action.
