The last-minute withdrawal by Bob Lancia in his bid for the second congressional district cleared the way for Fung to secure the party's nomination and run unopposed through the September 13 primary.

If victorious, he would be the first GOP member of the RI Congressional delegation since then Republican Lincoln Chafee lost his seat in the U.S. Senate to Sheldon Whitehouse in 2006.
Republican National Committee Co-Chairman Tommy Hicks was the guest speaker at the Convention.
