Political Profile: David Marshall, Candidate for Providence City Council, Seventh Ward
David Marshall is a Democratic candidate for Providence City Council in the Seventh Ward. Here is what he has to say.
1. What do you think is the biggest political issue this campaign season in Providence?
If you are speaking in terms of the City issue, Public Safety issues, and relationships with police. Public safety is a must in all neighborhoods, and we have to establish an open communication between these officers and work together, not against each other, If we don't work together, no one wins, and all lives are at risk.
2. What do we need to do to improve Providence's economy?
We need to assist businesses with low-interest loans.
3. What is the greatest challenge facing Providence as a city?
We have some things in the city that are out of control. However, we have to have controlled spending and put money back into our neighborhoods.
4. Why are you running for office? What makes you uniquely qualified?
I am 64 years of age and a resident of Ward 7 my entire life. I attempted an election in 2018 and was defeated by City Council President John Igliozzi. Since that election, I continued to walk the neighborhood, assisting members of the community with some of their immediate needs for safety and any other concerns. I am actively involved in the Silver Lake Little league, attempting to keep our children safe and off the street. As we teach them not only the game, but respect and discipline.
I want to keep this communication in the Ward open, so everyone has someone to contact if any City questions need to be cleared for them.
