NEW: Poll Shows Solomon Can Beat Cianci

Internal polling released by Democratic candidate for Providence Mayor Michael Solomon's campaign today indicates that Solomon is better positioned than Democratic primary opponent, Jorge Elorza to defeat Buddy CIanci in the general election this November.   

The poll was conducted by John Della Volpe, founder and CEO of SocialSphere, Inc.  between August 17th and August 22nd.  It encompasses 440 general election voters and has a margin of error of +/- 4.6%.  The results released by the Solomon campaign show Solomon leading by one in a three-way horserace against Independet Buddy Cianci and Republican Daniel Harrop, while Elorza trails Cianci by 7 points.   

About one quarter of voters remain undecided regardless of who the Democratic nominee is.

“This election year could not be more critical to Providence’s future and I remain confident that I am the only candidate in this race who can defeat Mr. Cianci,” said Solomon in a press release.   “That is why today I am releasing the results of our own internal polling.  Contrary to the claims made by my opponents last week, I am the only candidate in a position to defeat Mr. Cianci in November."

The poll findings released by the Solomon campaign follow below.

Solomon, 36%

Cianci, 35%

Harrop, 6%

Don’t know, 23%

Cianci, 38%

Elorza, 31%

Harrop, 6%

Don’t know, 25%

The poll was conducted by John Della Volpe, founder and CEO of SocialSphere, Inc. between August 17-22, (440 interviews, MoE +/- 4.6%)
