Andy Moffit and Governor Gina Raimondo
Rumors have been swirling for months that Governor Gina Raimondo’s husband, First Gentleman Andrew Moffit, has business interests in the marijuana industry.

This past weekend, Raimondo announced that the major initiative of her second-term would be to push legislation to legalize the sale of marijuana in Rhode Island.

The Governor’s office tells GoLocal that those rumors as false.

In an email to GoLocal, Raimondo spokesperson Josh Block denied that Moffit has any ownership in any business relating to marijuana or that he consulted to any interest in the industry (paid or unpaid).

Whether or not Moffit in his role at McKinsey has he done any consulting to the industry, Block said, “Not that I’m aware of. You’d have to ask McKinsey about their client list.”

One former top Republican official had pushed for Raimondo to address the rumors.

"This is very easy. My friends in the press. Next interview with Raimondo, you ask, '[Governor], are you, or anyone in your family invested in any marijuana business ventures or such?' Get her on the record!" former Republican State Representative and Congressional candidate Bobby Nardolillo wrote on Facebook this week.
