RI Campaign 2010 – Lynch Speaks Out on Ethics Issues

“We think it is a conflict to give out contracts in exchange for campaign contributions,” the campaign said, accusing Democratic challenger Frank Caprio of doing so repeatedly.
The Lynch campaign noted that it has come out in support of an SEC ban on donations from investment firms to office holders and candidates who might do business with them. When asked if he would pledge to refrain from doing business with a donor, campaign manager Joel Coon said that as Attorney General, Lynch does not give out contracts for state business.

“Legal services should not be obtained from the lowest bidder,” Coon said. “It is not an apples to oranges comparison with say, contracts to invest the states money or contracts to build a road or building. With legal services the qualifications and experience of the attorney should be the deciding factor.”
The Caprio campaign was not immediately available for comment.

The Uncaucus—a group of concerned citizens who are nonpartisan and non-activist—held their first “Coffee with the Candidates” series yesterday at the Friendship Café on Broad Street with Democratic Providence mayoral candidate Angel Taveras.
Taveras praised the event, saying it was exactly how to change politics—from the bottom up. The next Coffee with the Candidates event will be on June 30 with John Lombardi. For more information, visit the Uncaucus Facebook page.
