RI Ranks Lowest for Percentage of Black Delegates to Dem and GOP Conventions

A new study finds that Blacks in Rhode Island rank the lowest for percentage of delegates at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions per Black population of any state in the U.S.

Democrats, the numbers in 2016 are looking to be consistent to the data compiled by WalletHub. Of the nine Super Delegates in Rhode Island, none are Black.

Rhode Island ranks last in the United States behind Delaware and New York.

The states with the highest percentage of Black delegates at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions per Black population Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida and Idaho.

The Study found, "black voters will account for more than 12 percent of the national electorate...There is no black candidate on the Democratic side this time, and the only one in the GOP has already fallen behind his fellow party contenders. But the problem of black underrepresentation isn’t exclusive to the presidential race. It trickles down to state and local governments, as Ferguson, Mo., made abundantly clear in 2014."
