PC's Carter Named Big East Player of the Year

Now, Carter has been recognized as the Big East Player of the Year.
The junior from Miami, Florida is just the second Friar named Big East Player of the Year -- former Friar Kris Dunn '16 earned the honor in 2015 and 2016.

The Friars (19-12, 10-10) will return to action on Wednesday in the First Round of the Big East Tournament versus Georgetown (9-22, 2-18) at Madison Square Garden at 6:30 PM on FS1.
Carter's Impact
"I'm so proud of Devin for all his accomplishments this season," Friar Head Coach Kim English said. "He is the toughest competitor I have ever been around in my basketball career. I'm excited for Devin to continue to add to his legacy this week."
Carter, who was named Big Eat Player of the Week twice this season, became the eighth Friar all-time to lead the league in scoring (21.4 ppg) and the first Friar since Ben Bentil (22.9 ppg) accomplished the feat in 2015-16. He has had an impressive season for the Friars as he ranks second in the league in scoring in overall action (19.4 ppg) and he ranks third in rebounding (8.6). Carter is second in the Big East in defensive rebounds (7.6), fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.385), third in minutes (35.2), fourth in three-point field goals made (2.6), fourth in steals (1.7) and 12th in blocked shots (1.0) and assists (3.6).
He has scored 20 or more points 13 times this season (third in the Big East) and he has posted 12 double-doubles (third in the Big East ). Carter has two games with 31 points and 13 rebounds this season -- at St. John's on January 10 and versus DePaul on February 17. In his final game of the regular season versus UConn on March 9, he scored 24 points, grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, had four assists, added two steals and made two blocks.
Carter was one of 30 players named to the Naismith Player of the Year Midseason Team. Carter also was one of 15 players named to the Naismith Defensive Player Of The Year Watchlist on February 7. He joined Zach Edey (Purdue), Tamin Lipsey (Iowa State) and Kevin McCullar (Kansas) as the only players on the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watchlist and the Naismith Player of the Year Midseason Team.
Carter, who transferred to Providence in 2022, earned All-SEC Freshman honors after averaging 9.0 points and 3.8 rebounds in his rookie season at South Carolina. In 2022-23, Carter was named All-Big East Honorable Mention when he averaged 13.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. For his career, he has scored 1,283 points (13.8 ppg) and grabbed 535 rebounds (5.8 rpg).
