Guard Tyler Kolek led Marquette in scoring with 29 points and guard Kam Jones chipped in 24 points.

Marquette trailed 88-80 midway through the first overtime, but closed on a 9-1 run to force the second extra session.

The Golden Eagles shot 63.6 percent from the floor in the second half and led by as many as nine points midway through the stanza, but saw the Friars close the half on a 13-3 run to force overtime.  Marquette freshman Sean Jones had a shot to win the game in regulation, but his 3-pointer from the top of the key came up short.

Marquette trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half, but closed the deficit to just one point, 39-38, at the intermission.  MU shot 47.1 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and Kolek and Kam Jones led the way with 10 points each.

"I am very proud of the resilience of our group," Head Coach Ed Cooley said. "I saw our Providence team really grow up in the last two or three games. We play very well at home, and a lot more great teams are going to come."

FIRST HALF:

Jared Bynum drove to the basket and finished a layup for the Friars' first basket. Carter added a three-ball to give the Friars an early 5-4 lead.
With 13 minutes left in the half, Bynum made an impact on back-to-back possessions, knocking down a three-pointer and finding Croswell for an emphatic slam during a 10-0 run. PC led 21-12.
Marquette responded with a 6-0 run. Noah Locke (Baltimore, Md.) ended the Friars' scoring drought with a three-ball from the top of the key at the 8:34 mark.
The Golden Eagles did not score their first three-pointer until the 7:31 mark, with Kam Jones connecting from deep. The Friars held a 26-23 lead.
As the first half was winding down, the Friars went on another scoring run, posting eight consecutive points to take a double-digit lead, 34-23.
Marquette once again made a push, tying the game at 36 with 10 unanswered points.
The Friars held a one-point advantage heading into halftime, 39-38.
Providence shot 15-31 (48.4%) from the field, 3-9 (33.3%) from three and 6-10 (60.0%) from the free throw line.
Marquette shot 16-34 (47.1%) from the field, 1-7 (14.3%) from three and 5-5 (100%) from the free throw line.

SECOND HALF:

Hopkins opened the second half for the Friars with a two-handed slam.
The Golden Eagles gained the lead in the first stretch of the first half, with Olivier-Maxence Prosper providing the spark. PC trailed 51-47 with 16 minutes remaining.
At the 15:16 mark, Bynum buried a fadeaway three-ball as the shot clock expired. On the next possession, Marquette's David Joplin answered with a three of his own.
Bynum continued his success from deep, separating himself from the defender and knocking down his second triple in as many possessions. The game was knotted at 54.

"I thought Jared's leadership and voice were big tonight," Cooley said.

Both teams found success on offense midway through the second half. The Golden Eagles had made eight of their last nine attempts, while the Friars had made four of their last five.
With less than 10 minutes to play, Marquette gained some separation on the scoreboard. A three-pointer from Tyler Kolek gave the Golden Eagles their largest lead so far (eight points), 70-62.
At the 2:49 mark, Carter knocked down his second three-pointer of the game to cut it to a one-possession game. On the next possession, Croswell converted an and-one to take the lead, 77-76.
With 0:39 to play, Marquette's David Joplin converted a difficult layup over the defender to tie the game at 78. The Friars took a timeout.
Providence shot 10-22 (45.5%) from the field, 4-11 (36.4%) from three and 15-19 (78.9%) from the free throw line.
Marquette shot 14-22 (63.6%) from the field, 5-8 (62.5%) from three and 7-9 (77.8%) from the free throw line.

FIRST OVERTIME:

The Friars outscored Marquette by a margin of 10-2 to start overtime.
At the 2:39 mark, Hopkins jumped in front of a Marquette pass and finished the layup on the ensuing offensive possession. PC led 88-80.
The Golden Eagles earned a quick seven points from Tyler Kolek off three Providence mishaps. It was once again a one-point game, with the Friars leading 88-87.
At the 0:22 mark, Kam Jones missed the go-ahead three-ball. Hopkins came down with the rebound, and made one of two free throws after being fouled.
Tyler Kolek, continuing to carry the Marquette offense, buried a fadeaway jumper from mid-range to tie the game at 89 with 5.8 seconds left in the first overtime period.
Carter missed the potential game-winning layup at the buzzer.

SECOND OVERTIME:

With 3:18 remaining, Hopkins knocked down two free throws to give the Friars a 92-91 advantage.
At the 2:29 mark, David Joplin buried a second-chance three-pointer from the left corner. Alyn Breed (Powder Springs, Ga.) responded on the other end of the floor, making a key contested triple. The game was level at 96.

"Alyn's role is continuing to grow," Cooley said. "He is undervalued for his ability to run the team as a point guard and as an elite defender."

At the 0:16 mark, Croswell missed the second of two free throws, but Hopkins came down with the offensive rebound and Breed closed the game from the line.

"Our identity is starting to show and our players are really buying in," Cooley added.

Providence shot 1-5 (20.0%) from the field, 1-3 (33.3%) from three and 11-14 (78.6%) from the free throw line in the second overtime period.
