RI's Faxon Receives Francis Ouimet Award
Faxon becomes the 18th recipient of the award, but only the third New Englander to receive it, after Francis Ouimet and Eddie Lowry.
Other recipients of the award include golf legends such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tom Watson and Annika Sorenstam, as well as President George H.W. Bush.

Brad Faxon along with fellow Rhode Islander Billy Andrade are co-host off the CVS Caremark Charity Classic, which they started in 1999.
Since it’s start, the tournament, held at Rhode Island Country Club, has raised over $17 million for local charities in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.
In 2005, Faxon was honored with the Payne Stewart award, a PGA Tour honor which recognizes charity work and how a player conducts himself while representing the tour.
Brad Faxon played on the PGA Tour where he recorded eight wins and is still considered to be one of the best putters to play the game.
Faxon went to Furman University where he was an All-American and won National Player of the Year in his senior year before turning pro.
Faxon currently works for Fox Sports 1 as part of their golf coverage while occasionally playing on the Champions Tour. Faxon has two Champions tour wins.
Francis Ouimet
Francis Ouimet, alongside his caddie Eddie Lowry, won the 1913 U.S. Open Championship at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he was a caddie.
Ouimet defeated Ted Ray and British golf legend Harry Vardon in a playoff to become the first amateur to win the U.S. Open title.
Ouimet’s win jump started amateur golf, not only in New England, but throughout the United States.
Ouimet played as an amateur his entire life and won two U.S. Amateur titles.
Ouimet was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund
The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund was founded in 1949 for the purposes of helping men and women who have worked at golf courses in Massachusetts obtain a college education.
The Ouimet Fund is the largest independent scholarship fund in New England.
