URI Basketball Continues to Scramble to Fill Roster as 8 Players Leave Program

The University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team is working to fill the roster for the 2022-2023 season and beyond.

The Rams need to replace Ishmael El-Amin (graduation), Jeremy Sheppard (graduation) Allen Betrand (Rider), Makhi and Makhel Mitchell (Arkansas), Antwan Walker (Bryant), Ileri Ayo-Faleye (Vermont), and Tres Berry (Charleston Southern), 

New coach Archie Miller, to date, has filled four of the slots.

George Washington transfer Brayon Freeman, Long Island Lutheran forward Louis Hutchinson, and fellow teammate Jeremy Foumena have committed to Kingston next Fall.

This weekend, Miller announced that the team has signed Rory Stewart, a 6’9” shooter from London. He most recently played at Orangeville Prep in Toronto, Canada.

Stewart was being recruited by a number of low mid-major programs, including.Holy Cross, Portland, and Eastern Michigan.

According to the ranking services, none of the incoming recruits come close to the talent levels of the departing Mitchell brothers.
