NEW: Flash Flood Watch In Effect in RI Until 6 A.M. Thursday

A flash flood watch has been issued for Rhode Island
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for parts of Rhode Island.

“The afternoon and evening commute will be hampered by low visibility in heavy rain and flooded roads. Avoid flooded roadways and plan on extra travel time,” said the Weather Service.

The flash flood watch is in effect from 1 p.m. on Wednesday to 6 a.m. on Thursday, August 29.

The Weather Service adds that four to five inches of rain are expected.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Rhode Island and Central and Eastern Massachusetts.

* Through late tonight

* Bands of showers with torrential rainfall will overspread the

  area this afternoon and continue through tonight. Rainfall

  totals will vary considerably, but most places should receive 2

  to 4 inches of rain with as much as 5 inches in a few locations.

* Flash flooding is possible this afternoon and tonight,

  especially in urban areas. Small streams may also flood nearby

  areas.

 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

 

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions are favorable for flash flooding, which can be a very dangerous situation.

The afternoon and evening commute will be hampered by low visibility in heavy rain and flooded roads. Avoid flooded roadways and plan on extra travel time.
