RI Beauty Insider: Pedi Nation – Get the Best Pedicure Ever

Be glam sandal-ready with the perfect pedi.
Toes have never been more “in” but along with glam sandal-readiness, you need proper foot care too. It goes, dare we say? - hand in hand? Here’s your checklist:

Find a place that’s uber clean

You’ll get the lay of the land as soon as you open the salon door but make sure pedi tubs are drained and refilled with clean water and a sanitizing solution after every client. If you’re not sure, don’t be afraid to ask. Toe fungi are pas de chic. And dangerous.

Foot files should be scrubbed and soaked in hospital-grade sanitizing solution too. Don’t be afraid to ask – a good salon expects it.

Ditto all implements. Always cleaned. Always sanitized. All the time.

Bonus points if the salon provides one-time use nail files and nail buffers. Double bonus points if they place them in a cute little plastic bag with your name on it for the next time.

No surgery

Anything with a blade is illegal in Rhode Island nail salons and good pedicurists won’t use it even if you ask. Foot files and scrubs work just as well. Blood isn’t chic either.

Relax

Consider a pedicure as a time to unwind. Don’t be shy – pedicurists have seen and handled all kinds of feet. And don’t worry about hairy legs either – in fact they prefer it. According to Nail Crew’s veteran pedicurists, Kate Barrows-Wilkinson, newly shaved legs can sting with the hard working scrubs and wraps that are used. Ease back into your vibrating chair, get out of her way, and let your trained pedicurist do her job!

Set it up

Most nail salons welcome walk-ins but if you come in off the street, you may have to wait for your throne. An appointment gets you behind the velvet rope faster. According to Barrow-Wilkinson, your best bet for getting your favorite pedicurist is to book an appointment and keep it!

Fun Stuff

So what’s the new black in nail color right this minute? Nail Crew’s crew says tropical corals and hot pinks. Think Brazilian sunshine on a scorching beach. But, that being said, anything goes. If you’re still hung up on sea blue and green, go for it. Toes are the perfect way to express your playful side. Kate Barrow-Wilkinson says a good pedicure will last about one month. Just in time to want to change your color.

Sum it up

Make sure your pedi place is pristine but also an oasis of pampering in your crowded life.
