Mullen Named President of Providence Country Day School Board of Trustees

Providence Country Day School in East Providence has named John H. Mullen as President of the Board of Trustees.

Mullen takes over as President on July 1.

“They’ve left big shoes to fill but I’m excited about all the great things happening at the school. I look forward to continuing the positive momentum with the new strategic plan and other transformations that will redefine the experience of a student at Providence Country Day,” said Mullen.

Mullen works as a portfolio manager with Parsons Capital Management INC. in Providence.

“With his wisdom, integrity and commitment to the school, John immediately emerged as a candidate that has the capacity and enthusiasm to lead the board. His commitment to good process and ability to reach the critical insight of the matter at hand has already proven impactful in helping us serve the PCD constituency. I’m excited to work alongside John and deliver on our new strategic direction together,” said Head of School Vince Watchorn.

John Mullen

Mullen is a 2002 graduate of PCD and started serving on the school’s finance committee in 2012. He was elected to the board of trustees two-years later.

Mullen has ten years of investment management experience— serving as a research associate and portfolio manager at Ocean State Asset Management before joining Parsons Capital Management in 2008.

He currently advises high-net-worth individuals and institutional accounts.

Mullen is a graduate of Fairfield University where he received both a BS in economics and a BA in psychology.

He also received an MBA from Providence College with a focus on finance and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Providence Society of Financial Analysts.

Two New Trustees

Along with Mullen being named president, PCD is also welcoming two new trustees, Matt Beardwood and Joanna Saltonstall.

Beardwood has over 20 years of financial service and investment industry experience and currently serves as the director of wealth management at Westover Capital in Wilmington, Delaware.

He joins the board in addition to his role on the PCD finance committee where he’s served since 2016. His father, Bruce, was a member of the PCD class of ’54.

Saltonstall works as a program manager at Brown University where she oversees interior design in the department of facilities management.

Saltonstall and her husband, Lawrence Farwell, are parents to Hannah Farwell ’19, a rising junior at PCD and her brothers, William and Thomas are members of the PCD classes of ’79 and ’83 respectively.
