NEW: May U.S. Unemployment Rate Rises, More Jobs Added

280,000 jobs across the nation were added in May, according to the latest report from the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Despite that, the unemployment rate across the country rose from April’s 5.4% to 5.5% in May. 

Meanwhile, the amount of unemployed persons was virtually unchanged from 8.7 million. In the major worker groups of adult men (five percent), adult women (five percent), teenagers (17.9 percent), whites (4.7 percent), blacks (10.2 percent), Asians (4.1 percent), and Hispanics (6.7 percent), unemployment rates showed little or no change in May. 

The next Bureau of Labor Statistics report on the situation of employment across the country is set to be released on July 2nd.
