We welcome Christina Scully, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive experience in consult liaison psychiatry. Consult liaison psychiatry is a subspecialty of psychiatry that involves treatment of medically ill patients. Dr. Scully comes to SCP from the Lifespan Department of Psychiatry, where she worked in the Consult Liaison (CL) service for nearly ten years. She has been recognized by Brown Psychiatry residents for excellence in teaching and patient care. Dr. Scully will be joining the recently expanded Intensive Outpatient Program. Mark Zimmerman, MD, chief of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at South County Psychiatry, commented that "Bringing on an excellent seasoned Psychiatrist like Christina is important for our mission and vision of delivering the best care possible to patients in the community. She recently worked at Rhode Island Hospital for nearly a decade as a CL psychiatrist with niche expertise in HIV and transplant psychiatry. She was the associate fellowship director of the Brown Psychiatry Consultation Liaison Fellowship and was recognized by both Brown Psychiatry residents and medical students with awards for her teaching and patient care. "
South County Psychiatry’s Intensive Outpatient Program opened in May and has since doubled its capacity. It is the only generalist intensive outpatient program in the state. Guided by evidence-based third-wave behavioral approaches, it offers care to patients who are experiencing acute psychiatric conditions marked by difficulty completing one’s usual daily responsibilities at work or at home. Care includes daily empirically supported group treatment, meetings with an individual therapist multiple times a week, and individual meetings with a psychiatrist several times a week.
In addition to the expansion of IOP program, SCP would also like to announce several additions to its team:
Shalyn Fava, LICSW, will be joining our outpatient therapy team. She is an experienced therapist who has worked in inpatient, partial hospital, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings. She has training in several empirically supported treatments, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention. She works with trauma, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and emotion dysregulation.
Michelle Kurzbach joins the South County Psychiatry team after many years at Care New England as a nurse manager. She will be working part-time in our outpatient program while also working at South County Hospital doing psychiatric consult work.
Danielle Audette, Ian Condon, and Jackie Haigh have joined the team as Patient Access Coordinators.
Ruth Rodriguez joined our Neuropsychology team as a Psychometrician.
