Boardman Heads to the Midwest

Liz Boardman has been one of Rhode Island’s top local journalists and has served the past few years as the Editor at the South County Independent, but she is leaving RI and recently announced on Facebook her departure:

I am the new assistant city editor of the Quad City Times, a large daily paper in Davenport, IA! I grew up in the Quad Cities and while my 17-year-old self couldn't wait to leave, my 51 year old self is looking forward to being back. My last day at The Independent is Oct. 14.

Mark Schieldrop Leaves Patch

AOL’s ownership of Patch was a failure and the hyper-local company was spun-off to a workout company which has been operating the remaining Patch sites.

In Rhode Island, the Patch once featured 18 sites and a staff of twenty full-time and and dozens of freelancers, but in the past couple of years Mark Schieldrop was nearly the last remaining staffer. 

He populated stories to the 16 different Rhode Island sites. On Friday, Schieldrop announced he is no longer with Patch. No local stories have been posted locally to the sites since his announcement as of Sunday night.

Steve Cascione Heads to DOT

"I'm feeling great. It was good run of 36 years in broadcast TV. We started way back when, when it was writing on a blackboard screen. I've seen a lot of changes, and it was time for change," Cascione told GoLocalProv in an interview.

"Today (Sunday) was technically my first day -- my title is Programming Service Officer. I'll be working out of  the DOT facility on Jefferson Boulevard, I'm going to be working under Joe Bucci. I'm excited and looking forward to it, and be able to tap my weather forecasting background for severe weather as it pertains to construction and snow removal -- it's a work in progress."

"I don't know if it's a new position or not. It's a unique opportunity. I'd been at ABC6 thirty-one years in total, and spent 5 years at Channel 12.  I was in broadcast since 1980, I'm looking forward to the change," said Cascione.

Perry Russom Leaves WPRI

Former junior reporter at WPRI-12 is leaving for New England Cable News and NBC Boston as a reporter.

Prior to WPRI, Perry was a multimedia journalist and fill-in anchor at WBNG-TV CBS 12 Action News in Binghamton, NY.
