Don't Miss: Food + Art in Abundance at Taste of Newport

'Tis the season for eating and drinking in Newport, and one of the year's biggest fundraisers is coming up November 13.

The 28th annual Child and Family’s Taste of Newport brings together more than 50 of the city's best chefs, caterers and confectioners, under one roof at the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island, and is the largest fundraiser for Child & Family, a private social service agency in Newport. 

“Children, teens, families and elders will benefit from this important fund raiser,” said Peter M. DiBari, President & CEO of Child and Family. “The generosity and participation at the 28th annual Taste of Newport will have a direct impact on individuals and families living right here within your neighborhood. After all, it is your support that allows Child & Family to provide the many needed services and programs in Newport County.”

In addition to the culinary bounty, the event features a major auction, and Keith Tavares, Vice President of Institutional Advancement previewed the offerings. “Tuscan Villas, Exploring the Azores, Bulgari B-Zero Series, Astrale Drop Diamond Earrings, and a priceless original bronze sculpture called 'The Waiter' by Kay Worden are just a few of the amazing offerings this year," Tavares said.

“I created 'The Waiter' in 1968," said Worden, who will be forever linked to another work, "The Wave," Newport's landmark sculpure. "I made only one other one and it was sold to a woman who lives in Alabama. She paid $3,000 for it that long ago. The two different trays are what made it fun for me.  It is made of bronze and was cast by the ancient Greek method of bronze casting, which takes about a year and involves quite a lot of input from me. It was cast at Roman Bronze in New York. I hope someone loves it as much as I do!”
