On Wednesday January 10, it announced it was pushing back its opening date until Friday.
"Mother Nature has washed out the first night of our soft opening. Believe us, we want to serve you bbq just as bad as you want to eat it! Sorry for the inconvenience. See you on Friday!" they announced on social media.
The “Highwater Haulers” are scheduled to play on Saturday at 9 PM.
“Thank you for your patience! We can’t wait to see you! Regular hours begin on the 18th,” said Wes’ Rib House on Facebook.
And according to Wes’ - familiar faces will be back.
“The pit is ready!!” they announced on Facebook, with a photo of the wood-fired grill. “And don’t worry, Kenny will still be back there on the other side of the glass.”
Restaurant History
According to Wes’ website:
"Wes was a very cool guy who had moved to R.I. from Missouri (not entirely by his own choice) around '72 or so. Once he got here, he quickly realized that if he wanted some decent BBQ in Providence, he was going to have to do it himself.
Wes’ Rib House first opened on Broad Street in Providence, R.I. in 1973. Ten years later, in 1983, they relocated to Dike Street in the heart of Olneyville to follow the smokey BBQ aroma. There was a big renovation of the restaurant 2012, turning it into a first-class, intimate, friendly gathering place for those who love barbecue.
Fast forward to current day, a few local restauranteurs (who spent many a night eating BBQ at Wes’ back in the day) have teamed up to stoke the fire and breathe new life into the legendary institution that opened its doors 50 years ago.
Just like slow-cooked meat, it takes time to get things right. Following months of renovations, Wes’s Rib House will be making a BIG comeback this Fall. We pledge to maintain Wes’ neighborhood feel, while delivering the very best barbecue, using only the freshest products and ingredients.
We are proud to continue Wes’ tradition of being a beloved spot for finger-licking BBQ cooked over wood, live music, and friendly vibes."
