RI Health Recommends Closing Sandy Point Beach, Third Beach & Peabody’s Beach

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is recommending the closure of Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth, Third Beach and Peabody’s Beach in Middletown, as well as, King Park in Newport for swimming due to high bacteria levels.

RIDOH had recommended the temporary closure of Third Beach back in May of 2019 and in August of 2018 for the same reason, as GoLocalProv reported.

According to RIDOH, they “will continue to monitor and review beach water quality regularly to ensure safe bathing throughout the summer season. The status of a beach may change on a daily basis.”
